smartphone shipments predicts will hit 1 billion 2016

Pakar Iklan - smartphone shipments prediction will hit 1 billion 2016 : A brand-new report from industry analysts Juniper Research predicts that smartphone shipments will hit 1 billion by the year 2016.

This would mean an increase of almost 230 per cent compared with current figures – a pretty substantial hike. Current figures show yearly shipments of around 300 million smartphones, and that's with the recent runaway success of handsets like the iPhone 4. For sales to hit 1 billion so-called "feature phones" would surely have to become a thing of the past for major markets.

High-end smartphones like the iPhone and HTC Desire have pioneered cutting-edge mobile features, while cheaper handsets like the HTC Wildfire and BlackBerry models have allowed those on a budget to jump onto the smartphone wagon.

The predictions from Juniper come as Nokia announced a 25 per cent drop in sales, with record losses of £323 million during Q2 2011. Once the global leader of the pack for mobile sales, Nokia's fall from grace has been slow but steady. However, the latest figures have taken even them by surprise.

"The challenges we are facing during our strategic transformation manifested in a greater than expected way in Q2 2011," commented Stephen Elop, CEO at Nokia. He retained a positive outlook however, saying that the company's strategies to tackle the challenges it faces have "started to have a positive impact on the underlying health of our business".

The company's Symbian operating system takes much of the blame for Nokia's decline, and it is now leaning heavily on the Microsoft Windows 7 deal it signed to revive its fortunes. If that works then the company will hope to regain as much of the expanding smartphone market as it can.
